Numbers

Awhile back we did a track for an art exhibition in Belgium. It was an exploration of the creative state of black convicts in US prisons., and it was created by Daniel Sannwald.

The words for this tracks are all numbers.  Specifically, the prisoner numbers of the participants in the project.
The track isn’t available online anymore, so here it is. Enjoy!

Matthew Antolick: Musician and Scholar

Matthew Antolick

Today begins a new semi-regular feature on our blog, highlighting the community that is the FFC. We’re starting Matthew Antolick, our primary drummer. Matt has been with the FFC since 2004. He’s a kung-fu master (well, proficient anyways), and has Masters Degree in Philosophy from the University of South Florida (click here to read his thesis).

In addition to playing a mean trap drum kit, Matt also plays Zendrum, marimba, percussion, electronics, and some keyboards.

His main project is The OaKs (Sonicbids EPK) a six piece ensemble mixing the edgy poignancy of Flannery O’Conner, the folk of Paul Simon, the aggressive jazz of Thelonious Monk, the compositional experimentation of the Doors, and the on-stage energy of Jane’s Addiction. The OaKs are a humanitarian project, check themout and support the cause (listen to the OaKs). The OaKs will be playing the CMJ music marathon tonight in NYC at Fontana’s.

The Oaks:

Matt also plays Zendrum with Morockin at EPCOT Center, and is an active freelance musician. All this and he has time to be a committed father and husband.

We congratulate Matt and The OaKs on their gig tonight at the CMJ music marathon tonight. Knock ‘em alive!

We Love a Parade…

Especially when we’re in it.

The Future Funk Collective participated on the RTC Productions float in the University of Florida’s Homecoming Parade on October 7. We brought the funk hard, and the proof was in the dancing, cheering crowds the entire time (including before the parade started).
The band consisted of Randy Garcia on Guitar and Bass, Mic Mell on bass and keys, and Gabe Galvin on the drums.

Here are a couple of Pics of us rocking on the float (with our FFC shirts on).
